Valentine's Day: Busiest day of the year for flower shops

MEDFORD, Ore. — Most flower shops are usually closed on Sunday, but they all made a special exception for Valentine’s Day. The phone at Corrine’s Flowers and Gifts was ringing off the hook, as last minute orders were placed for the special occasion.

While Toni Willams, the manager, says this year isn’t as busy as past Valentine’s Days, calls began coming in bright and early.

“I figured there would be a lot of last minute people, there usually is,” Williams said. “We probably have 25 deliveries today, which is pretty good for a Sunday when we’re not normally open.”

The average American spent about $150 on their Valentine today, which translates to about $20-billion dollars across the country.
