Wild Weather In Southern Oregon

Buckets of rain pouring down in East Medford Friday evening. Even bringing hail to parts of Medford…good for the smokey skies, but moments later the sun shines through. Some folks love it.

“I think its beautiful its great weather, tha hail was so refreshing,” says Bea Vermeyen.

Records show that it has only rained about four inches so far this year when normally it should be at more than double that – 9.8 inches.

“I hate it this weather just needs to go away it need to be August weather not April weather,” says Carlos Morales.

But why the weird weather

NBC 5’s Meteorologist Adam Colpack says its because of a nearly stationary low preasure system sitting of the coast off northern California – giving us these scattered showers and thunderstorms and causing the inconsistent weather patterns.

Another record breaker was for the month of July it was the warmest average since 2009 and we’ll be seeing more warmth for the month of August.

The National Weather Service in Medford has about a hundred years worth of data.

All in all this has been a very hot summer and the driest year so far on record.
