Wildfires prompt restrictions Labor Day weekend

Medford, Ore. — The wildfires could put a damper on Labor Day weekend plans for those hiking or camping.

Sky Lake Wilderness

Parts of the Pacific Crest Trail are closed to the 790 Fire.

Jim Whittington, from the Bureau of Land Management says the closure is to keep the public safe from both the fire itself and theequipmentfirefighters are using.

The northern part of Lost Creek Lake will also be closed through at least Monday as firefighting planes land to refill with water.

The south side of the lake is still open to boaters and swimmers.

Klamath National Forest

25% of the Klamath National Forest is closed as crews battle the growing Happy Camp Complex Fire as well as mop up the Beaver Fire.

The blazes have forced the closure the following campgrounds and trail heads.

-Grinder Campground

-Curly Jack Campground

-Fort Goff Campground

-Indian Scotty Campground and Group Camp

-Norcross Trailhead and Campground

-Sulphur Springs Campground

-Lovers Camp Campground

-Beaver Creek Campground

-Mule Bridge Trailhead and Campground

-Idlewild Campground

All Forests

Whittington says if you plan on starting a campfire, make sure it is in an approved area.

Fines for starting a fireoutside of an approved area varies from $100 to $5,000 and/or spend a year in jail.If the fire grows into a massive wildfire you could be held responsible for the cost of the entire blaze.

The rules apply for smoking.

Douglas County & Bow Hunting Season

Bow hunting season begin August 30 in Oregon, but there are restrictions in Douglas County.

Sections of Indigo Unit 21, east of Roseburg and north of Diamond Lake are closed.
