Magnitude 6.9 earthquake reported off the coast of Fiji

Nadi, Fiji – A magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck 136 miles off the southern coast of Fiji, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake struck Tuesday just before 2:00 p.m. Pacific Time at a depth of 6 miles.

The U.S. National Tsunami Warning Center said there is no tsunami danger for Oregon, California, Alaska, Columbia or British Columbia.

A Tsunami threat forecast issued immediately after the quake stated large waves may be possible for some coasts of Fiji, but no other areas were covered by the warning.
