Crescent City, Calif. — From Crescent city to Brookings, hundreds of people gathered on Wednesday to pay their respects to four people who were killed in a plane crash on the Northern California coast last Friday.

The four were on board the medical transport plane when it crashed in the woods of Humboldt County.

20 to 30 vehicles from local and regional first responders participated in the afternoon procession that began in Crescent City and ended in Brookings.

One of Michelle Tarwater’s closest friends and coworkers calls her an inspiration. “Michelle passed doing what she absolutely loved to do. She died with her boots on and she wouldn’t have it any other way. And that’s the Michelle that I know,” said Maria Pinkhasov.

Friends of the victims tell us that some family members came from across the country to the memorial.

The twin engine Piper Cheyenne aircraft from Crescent City crashed in a heavily wooded area as it headed to Oakland shortly after midnight Friday morning.

The NTSB is investigating the cause of the crash.
