Newtown, Connecticut teacher arrested for bringing gun to school

0406 newtown teacherNewtown, Conn. — A Newtown Middle School teacher was arrested on Wednesday after it was discovered he had a concealed gun at the school. The school is in the same town as Sandy Hook Elementary, where a deadly mass shooting occurred in 2012.

NBC Connecticut reports that police officers responded to the school after security staff detained a teacher who was seen carrying a firearm.

Police identified the teacher as 46-year-old Jason M. Adams, of Newtown. Police say Adams was found with a gun.

Adams was briefly detained by police, and charged with possession of weapon on school grounds. Officers say school policy strictly forbids the possession of firearms on school property.

Police say Adams has a valid State of Connecticut pistol permit.
