OHA considers strength of recreational marijuana edibles

Medford, Ore.–  New rules could make marijuana edibles less potent for recreational consumers.  According to a report in The Oregonian, the Oregon Health Authority is considering requiring weaker levels of marijuana in edible products.

It’s all in an effort to protect novice marijuana users and kids who could easily mistake an edible for a normal treat.

Owner of Siskyou Medical Supply in Ashland, Mike Welch says being informed is the best way to prevent mishaps, but structure may not be a bad idea.

“Their concerns are valid,” says Welch.  “Now we have opened it up to a bunch of people who would not have had access to it previously because it’s illegal.  Now that they have access to it we do need to go in and make it a little bit easier.”

Right now only medical marijuana patients can buy edibles legally.
