Portland police: Man fatally shoots dog during attack

Portland, Ore. – Police say a man shot and killed a pit bull that was attacking his dog outside a Portland coffee shop.

Portland NBC affiliate KGW reports the shooting occurred Thursday evening at Multnomah Village in the 7700 block of Southwest Capitol Highway.

A man who was in the area at the time of the shooting said, “We were in the restaurant having dinner and heard two barking dogs and ‘bang!’ Right after that, we came running out and there’s a dog on the ground dead and bleeding,”

Officers told KGW that the shooting appeared to be justified.

A witness voiced his concern, saying, “It’s completely ridiculous this guy isn’t getting arrested for the fact that he shot a gun in a public place with families walking around.”

The owner of the pit bull was cited by police. She said her dog was not attacking any dog, “They never attacked anybody, never did anything and the guy pulled out his gun and was waving his gun and shot my dog in the head.”
