Fire destroys home, Klamath Falls family homeless

Klamath Falls, Ore – An early morning fire destroys one home, displacing a family of five.

Tijouna Sanders is trying to salvage what she can from her home, following a fire that broke out shortly before 1:00 Thursday morning.

“The flames were just billowing out, burning your face,” noted Sanders. “And we could go back in for the dog, he was too scared to come.”

Sanders and her boyfriend, and three children aged 6, 4, and 18 months were able to make it out of the home.

“I’m going to stay with family members while I can,” added Sanders. “I’m going to bury my dog, and I’m going to try to salvage whatever we can from this whole situation.  I’m just thankful my kids came out.”

Investigators say the fire began in the kitchen area.

The fire destroyed four vehicles, and damaged two neighboring homes. The family is receiving temporary assistance from the American Red Cross. Total damage from the fire is estimated at about $100,000.
