Kindergarteners plant a future forest

Spokane, Wa.– (KHQ)  A kindergarten class is growing dozens of small trees they’ll eventually send to Chelan, which was hit hard by wildfires this summer.

The kindergartners at Hamblen Elementary are studying trees right now.

“You have to make it as concrete as possible,” Wendy Fitzgerald said.

Fitzgerald teaches at Hamblen, and had the idea for the trees. She says her friend was clearing her yard when she came across the saplings. Rather than see them disposed of, Fitzgerald offered to take them off her hands.
