Reporter marks 50 years with Herald and News

Klamath Falls, Ore. – Doug Higgs of the Herald and News is celebrating 50 years of reporting in Klamath Falls this month.

Higgs says he was bit by the news bug when he was young.  “This is something I really like to do.”  Notes Higgs.  “I’ve always liked it, since I was a boy – and journalism classes in high school, and started as a copy boy at the newspaper in Los Angeles.”

Higgs served in the Navy, and worked at a paper in Yreka before coming to Klamath Falls in 1966.

He offers this advice to reporters just starting out:  “Even those small stories are important to someone – and they deserve our best effort.”

Now 83, Higgs says he intends to keep working as long as he’s able.

Higgs is well known for his dry sense of humor, and his love of puns.

Higgs is also an accomplished bridge player, holding Diamond Life Master status.
