Same-sex couple behind 'Sweet Cakes' suit speaks out

Portland, Ore. – Two married women who are suing a Portland area bakery after the owner refused to make them a wedding cake are speaking out.

Portland NBC affiliate KGW reports Rachel and Laurel Bowman-Cryer wanted to buy a wedding cake from Sweet Cakes bakery. The Christian owners said no.

On Sunday, the Bowman-Cryers sat down for their first television interview with KGW on Sunday.

“It’s just so hard. It just touches and affects every little thing,” said Rachel. “From jobs to housing to just trying to go to the store.”

“And interact with our family every day,” added Laurel.

The two said they have received hateful mail and even serious death threats. “Yeah, we had the FBI show up once because of one,” said Laurel.
