So. Medford H.S. teacher accused of sexting student

Medford, Ore. – Police have arrested a South Medford High School teacher for allegedly “sexting” a 17-year-old female student.

According to court documents, 38-year-old Richard Michael Fay, who also goes by Ricky, exchanged pictures and text messages that were sexually explicit with one of his students. The victim told police the relationship has been ongoing for over a year.

Court documents show the 17-year-old told police that she sent nude and clothed photos of herself to Fay at his request.

Medford Police said they believe at least one other student could have been involved with Fay. They added the investigation is still ongoing.

Richard Fay is still listed on the South Medford High School online staff directory as a secondary teacher.

Fay has been lodged in the Jackson County Jail on charges of attempting to use a child in the display of a sex act, attempted encouraging child sexual abuse, and attempted possession of sexual material involving a child. He will be arraigned Thursday afternoon.

NBC5 News reached out to the Medford School District who released a statement that reads in part, ” The Medford School District is cooperating with the Medford Police Department in its investigation of Richard Fay, a teacher at South Medford High School. Mr. Fay has been removed from the classroom pending the outcome of this investigation. As stated in Medford School Board adopted policy, sexual conduct by district/school employees as defined by Oregon law will not be tolerated.”

Fay was arraigned in Jackson County Court Thursday, he’s being held on half a million dollars bail.
