2020 was the deadliest year in U.S. history

(NBC) The number of deaths in 2020 now tops 3 million, making this year the deadliest year in U.S. history.

That’s mainly due to the coronavirus pandemic with the death toll reaching nearly 320,000 and counting.

We won’t have final mortality data for the year for months but preliminary data shows the U.S. is on track to have more than 3.2 million deaths this year, at least 400,000 more than in 2019.

That would be the biggest single-year increase since 1918.
