Orlando gunman’s past probed

NC_orlandoam0614_1500x845Orlando, Fla. (NBC News) — Investigators are continuing their interviews with Orlando gunman Omar Marteen’s family, associates, and former colleagues. They’ve also started an extensive recreation of the Pulse nightclub crime scene to help determine exactly what happened.

Several pulse patrons have said that Marteen had been seen several times at the nightclub where he opened fire.

Others reported that he was active on gay dating apps as well.

The weapons he used were bought legally, a little over a week ago, at a Port St. Lucie gun store.

“Unfortunately he’s evil. We happened to be the gun store he picked, and there’s nothing else I can say,” said Ed Henson of the Port St. Lucie Shooting Center.

Federal officials say Mateen was on their watch list while under investigation for remarks he made about terrorist connections during 2013 and 2014. If he had tried to buy the gun then, the FBI would have been notified, but the case had been closed so notification was not required.
