Virginia server's "tip" says "We only tip citizens"

Harrisonburg, Va. (WHSV) — On Monday, Virginia waitress Sadie Elledge served a man and woman two gyros, sodas, and a Greek salad. From the start, Sadie said she felt uncomfortable, “They wouldn’t talk to me. They would just nod their heads.”

As a woman signed the receipt, she left no tip. Not unusual for any server. But the reason why she didn’t leave the tip was something Sadie said she has never seen, “It shouldn’t even matter, and like, I just feel like it’s rude and disrespectful, I never met. I’ve never done anything to them”

Not only disrespectful, but Sadie says it is just plain wrong, “I was born here but I’m Mexican and Honduran.”

Adding another layer to Sadie’s disbelief, she said the woman herself had an accent.

And the restaurant she serves at is an immigrant created and owned business.

Here’s what Sadie’s boss has to say about the “tip”, “If coward is the word to describe what they did. I have worst words to use, but let’s go with coward.”

Well it is called the Friendly City for a reason. Sadie got a letter from some downtown neighbors, covering the tip and then some — tapping into the same spirit of being a friendly neighbor, Sadie says she would serve them again, “It makes me the stronger person just to not like, let these things bother me because I know I’m a good person. I know that.”
