Wyoming motorcyclist killed in Highway 101 crash

1026-lane-county-crashLane County, Ore. – Oregon State Police troopers responded to a crash on Highway 101 north of Florence around 2:00 Wednesday afternoon.

OSP said the crash involved a motorcycle and a passenger car. An investigation revealed the motorcycle was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed and using the center turn lane to pass other vehicles before the crash took place.

According to OSP, the car had been traveling westbound on Sutton Lake road when it came to a stop, then turned onto Highway 101.

Troopers said the car was then hit by the motorcycle as it pulled onto the highway. The motorcyclist, identified 19-year-old Wyoming resident

Ryan W. Petersmann, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car was not injured.

Witnesses told police the motorcycle was operating without a headlight and speeding before the crash. There was also limited visibility due to rain.

OSP said the investigation is ongoing.
