Unsolved murder in Klamath Falls

Update (08/08/16, 4:00 p.m.) — After nearly two years, a suspect was indicted on murder charges for the death of a Klamath County man killed on a bike trail.

The Klamath County District Attorney’s Office says a grand jury returned an indictment against 18-year-old Seth Cunningham for the murder of 39-year-old Tyler Nelson.

Klamath Falls, Ore. – It’s been almost one year since 39 year old Tyler Nelson was shot and killed on a Klamath Falls bike path, yet no arrests were ever made.

Tyler Devore Nelson was shot and killed on the O.C.&E. Bike Trail on the evening of November 13th of last year.

Nelson had been shot multiple times.

“I heard gunshots,” said neighbor Nate Matthies. “Came outside, neighbor was outside, and said, ‘He’s laying right there.'”

Police are still looking for Nelson’s killer.

Klamath County District Attorney Rob Patridge said no suspects have ever been named, “We’ve had a variety of information come from the public, as well as information that’s bubbled up over continued investigations.”

Patridge said it’s unclear what sparked the shooting, “That’s a key part of our investigation – what really was the motive.”

Four nights after Nelson was murdered, police shot and killed armed robbery suspect Lenny Miles in an exchange of gunfire.

Police have said Miles was a suspect in a murder investigation – but they aren’t saying if it was the Nelson murder.

“Lenny Miles was a suspect in a homicide investigation,” said D.A. Patridge, “I’m not at liberty to share with the public at least at this point in time which one of those it could be.”

The murder investigation remains open, and police are still asking for help from the public.

The Oregon State Police is the lead agency on the Nelson murder investigation.
