Snow and ice brings I-5 to stand-still

12.12 SISKIYOU SUMMITAshland, Ore. — I-5 was brought to a stand-still near the Siskiyou summit for over half an hour this afternoon — a result of snow and ice on the interstate.

Road crews with the Oregon Department of Transportation began plowing early this morning and continued into the evening.

Officials we spoke with say the road conditions impacted traffic for most of the day.

“The snow fall was overloading us, we can only move so much, we only have so many plows and timing is everything. So basically, the snowfall was heavier than we could remove and it only takes one trucker or one car to spin out,” said Evrett Carroll with ODOT.

Oregon State Police responded to a number of reported crashes and slide-offs today as well, the icy conditions a factor in nearly all of them.
