Arrest made in Klamath Falls murder

Klamath Falls, Ore. – A murder suspect is behind bars in Klamath Falls, following an early Thursday morning shooting.

The shooting happened shortly before six Thursday morning behind a home in the 3900 block of Cannon Avenue.

Nigel Gulden says he heard an argument followed by gunshots…

“When we peered over the fence, I could visibly see his body – and the first call people were no longer trying to assist him.  So I can only assume that he’s dead.”

Klamath County District Attorney Rob Patridge says the victim has been identified as a 22 year old Klamath Falls man…

“Officers found Kameron Kevin Stewart deceased at the scene when they arrived from a gunshot wound.  Consequently, the major crime team has been activated.”

Patridge adds that 32 year old suspect Daryl Dean Hatchard was arrested for murder late Thursday afternoon in connection with the shooting…

“It’s a variety of evidenciary pieces that we were able to put this together, to have Mr. Hatchard identified.”

The shooting took place less than two blocks from where a Klamath County Sheriff’s Deputy was shot and wounded in August of 2014.

“It happens all the time, seems like.”  Noted neighbor Nate Matthies.  “At least once or twice a year.”

Neighbor Doug Sunday says other unsolved murders have also taken place along the bike trail in the same neighborhood…

“This is the second one in two years.  Makes me nervous.  That’s why I got two dogs.”

Nigel Gulden says he’s nervous, too…

“Well, my fiancee and I have decided not to move our child up here.”

The murder is the fifth to take place in Klamath County since December.

The investigation continues, and those with any information are asked to contact police, or leave a tip anonymously by calling (541) 883-5334.
