Ashland City Council urged to address affordable housing

Ashland, Ore. — A request is made to put the issue of affordable housing on the Ashland City Council’s agenda.

Members of Southern Oregon Housing for All addressed the council during the public comment period at Tuesday’s City Council meeting.

They urged the council to make room in a future meeting to discuss the affordable housing crisis.

“With the help of many volunteers from the community, various faith groups, and the City of Ashland, we’re now providing winter shelter five days a week and emergency shelters when certain conditions exist. This is good, but it’s not enough,” addressed Southern Oregon Housing for All member Sharon Harris.

Four priorities were brought to the council, a 24/7 temporary shelter, building transitional tiny homes, funding the city’s housing trust fund, and expanding local tenant protections.
