Ballot drop box replaced in Eagle Point

Eagle Point, Ore. — The current ballot drop box next to the Eagle Point Library is the replacement of one that got jammed on Thursday.

Jackson County Clerk Chris Walker says the box wasn’t even full, but ballots were getting jammed as soon as they entered.

Once the elections office found out about the issue Thursday, they immediately replaced the ballot drop box with a new one.

Walker says the replacement process was completed within hours, but not without the help of citizens notifying them.

“I believe it was the same person who called and left a message on my machine that they were going to watch it to make sure that no tampering was done with that, and I appreciate that… thank you very much, ” Walker said.

Walker wants to encourage the community to continue contacting them or law enforcement if anything seems out of place.

Then they can resolve issues very quickly so citizens can securely send out their ballots.

The old drop box is out of service and currently in a storage facility.

Walker says they are going to see if they can get it fixed.
