Body recovered from Shasta River

Update (03/01/17 10:10 a.m.) — The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man found dead in the Shasta River as 35-year-old Thomas Booth of Yreka.

A preliminary investigation shows no signs of foul play, but a cause of death cannot be determined conclusively until an autopsy is conducted.


Yreka, Calif. — Authorities are investigating the death of a man found partially submerged in a Shasta River tributary.

According to the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office, investigators responded to the 4400 block of Old Shasta River Road for a report of a dead body.

Preliminary investigations show no signs of foul play or injuries caused by someone else.

The Sheriff’s Office has tentatively identified the man and notifying his next-of-kin. An autopsy is scheduled for later this week.
