California bill would require colleges to provide abortion pills

Sacramento, Calif. — A bill in the California Legislature would require publicly funded colleges to provide the abortion pill.

Introduced by Senator Connie Leyva (D), Senate Bill 320 would require state universities and community colleges that operate on-campus health centers  to “include coverage of abortion as part of the student health insurance plan” and “include coverage of abortion as part of the student health insurance plan.”

The bill does not address surgical abortions.

Women can typically take two doses of the pill up to ten weeks of pregnancy.

California’s State University system hasn’t reacted to the proposal.
