Cave Junction man charged with sexually abusing step-daughter

0615 Jeffrey HandleyCave Junction, Ore. — A Cave Junction man who stands accused of sexually abusing his step-daughter multiple times over an eight-year period is behind bars.

Jeffrey Handley is facing rape, sodomy, sex abuse, and other charges after police said he assaulted and sexually abused his 15-year-old step-daughter since she was 7.

Oregon State Police became aware of the abuse back in May. A day later, troopers say Handley shot himself in the head with .22 caliber long rifle at their house on the 100 block of Enchanted Way.

NBC5 News was on scene as detectives arrived. Handley was initially taken to Three Rivers Hospital in Grants Pass, and later transferred to a Portland hospital for brain surgery.

Handley has since been arrested on the charges.
