Close call for truck driver

0311 caltrans truckMendocino County, Cal. – A landslide nearly pushed a Caltrans employee over the edge of the highway Friday morning.

According to Caltrans District 1, crews were preparing to clean up a landslide five miles north of Westport, California. While traffic control and lights were being set up, a second slide occurred, nearly pushing a dump truck over the edge of the highway, with an employee still inside.

Officials say that thankfully, the dump truck was stopped from tumbling over the edge by a guard rail. On the other side of the rail is a very steep slope to the beach. The driver was not injured.

Caltrans reminds the public to keep your vehicle far back from any slides, and don’t try to get close for photos.
