Community dinner in Phoenix celebrates sixth year

PHOENIX, Ore. — The Phoenix Community Kitchen celebrated their 6th anniversary Thursday.

In that time they’ve served more than 20,000 meals and volunteers have given more than 20,000 hours.

The aroma of spaghetti filled the air as volunteers prepped the food for the free dinner they are hosted Thursday to celebrate their sponsors and service to the community.

Some of the sponsors for the event include the Phoenix Food Project, Rays Food Place and Fire District 5.

“Everybody’s hungry. We all come together and have a meal and it is amazing that feeling of feeding your community,” said volunteer coordinator Carolyna Marshall.

The dinner went from 5 to 7 Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church of Phoenix.
