Community rallies for sick boy

Grants Pass, Ore. — The community of Grants Pass came together on Monday to help a young boy in the battle of his life.

4-year-old Corvallis boy Rio Ramirez has severe aplastic anemia and needs a bone marrow transplant to survive.

In hopes of finding a donor match for little Rio, and others in need, dozens of people came out to Lithia of Grants Pass to get their names on the National Bone Marrow Registry.

Participant Penny Farrow said, “I just feel like paying it forward to others is the most important thing we can do as a community, and a few minutes of your time to swing in and take care of things is not that bad.”

Participants had to fill out an information sheet and swab their cheeks for DNA. Many of them also donated blood.
