Construction on Highway 62 bypass set to begin

62 corridorMedford, Ore. — The long anticipated changes to traffic in North Medford are finally on the horizon. A bypass project on Highway 62 is kicking off this week.

On Thursday afternoon, a groundbreaking ceremony for the Oregon 62 Expressway will be held.

The Oregon Department of Transportation is hoping the first phase of the Highway 62 bypass will help alleviate congestion on Crater Lake Highway. The new project will also provide sidewalks and other transit related enhancements.

ODOT said that keeping traffic moving during construction is a priority. Two lanes of Highway 62 are required to be open in each direction from 6:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and from 6:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

The second phase of the project will allow traffic to move directly along a 4.5-mile expressway to White City, Eagle Point and Northeast Jackson County from Medford, all without traveling on Highway 62.
