DNC: Day one drama

Philadelphia, Penn. (NBC News) — Outgoing Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz spoke to a contentious crowd at the Florida Democratic Party Breakfast Monday in Philadelphia.

Wasserman-Schultz was booed and jeered by those attending the breakfast as she approached the podium and began speaking.

Protesters held signs reading “emails” and “division”. Some even held up Bernie Sanders campaign signs.

After mounting pressure by party officials, Wasserman-Schultz announced Sunday she would resign as party chair following this week’s convention.

The FloridaCcongresswoman’s resignation was spurred by controversies involving the DNC’s handling of Senator Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign.

The final push came from an email leak that revealed DNC staffers actively tried to obstruct Sanders’ primary campaign against eventual nominee Hillary Clinton.
