Fight between brothers allegedly led to fatal shooting

Update (09/01 3:50 p.m.) — According to the Josephine County District Attorney’s Office, the state will not be filing charges against Wayne Hansen.

Josephine County, Ore. — It appears a fight between brothers lead to a fatal shooting outside Grants Pass.

Oregon State Police Troopers responded to Potts Way in the Merlin area outside Grants Pass at around 8:00 Monday evening.

Though police are releasing little information at this time, troopers confirm they found 50-year-old Doug Hansen dead from a gunshot wound. They declined to say whether Hansen’s death was being investigated as a homicide. But Hansen’s mother tells NBC5 News that Doug and his brother Wayne were fighting, and Wayne shot Doug in self-defense because Doug was strangling him.

District Attorney Ryan Mulkins confirmed his office is investigating to determine whether criminal charges are appropriate.
