Fire destroys Jacksonville home

Jacksonville, Ore. —  A late night fire destroyed a home in Jacksonville.

Neighbors reported they heard fireworks just after 9:00 Monday then saw the blaze on the first block of Sterling Creek Road.

Fire officials said when they arrived on scene the house was fully involved. They said the person who lives in the home part time was not there when the fire broke out. Concerned about the fire spreading, firefighters worked quickly.

“When your fields are very volatile and that’s of course one of our incident priorities to make sure we don’t get spread into the wildland then have the fire carried over into other structures,” Applegate Fire District Division Chief Brad Barnes said.

Firefighters said the house is a total loss. The cause is under investigation.
