Firework safety

0627 fireworksMedford, Ore., — If you’re getting ready for the Fourth of July with fireworks, there are some things you should know.

With Independence Day exactly one week away, there are places in Medford city limits you aren’t allowed to set off fireworks: the Bear Creek Greenway, any city park, or any public school, and you can’t shoot them on any hillsides.

Combined with the recent heat firefighters are encouraging residents to be cautious.

“Try to avoid setting off fireworks in areas close to dry vegetation, so areas like green grass or non combustible surfaces like asphalt or pavement.” says Medford Fire Inspector, Tanner Fairrington.

When you’re done, Medford Fire Rescue says wait till your fireworks cool before touching, and douse them in water, regardless if you set them off or not.
