Gap Fire claims two more structures, grows to 25,000 acres

Seiad Valley, Cal.- The Gap Fire, which started Saturday, Aug. 27, has now reached 25,801 acres. The fire moved quickly over the weekend, prompting new mandatory evacuations and burning at least two structures.

Mandatory evacuations are in place for both sides of Highway 96 between Scott River Road and Walker Gulch, including Hamburg. Two structures were reported destroyed near Hick’s Gulch on the north side of the Klamath River. They have yet to be assessed by fire crews.

Highway 96 between Scott River Road and Walker Gulch, including Hamburg, is open at this time but subject to closure for public and firefighter safety.

Mandatory evacuations remain for residences on Ladd Road west from Hick’s Gulch to Walker Gulch on the north side of the Klamath River.

Advisory evacuations remain issued for Scott Bar and for residents along Highway 96 west from Walker Gulch; including the community of Seiad Valley, and along the Seiad Creek Road from Seiad Valley to Panther Gulch.

Scott Bar is under an evacuation advisory.

A Closure Order has been issued for the area surrounding the Gap Fire, including a portion of the Pacific Crest Trail.

The fire is now 30 percent contained.
