Horse rescued from swimming pool in Josephine County

1005-horse-rescueJosephine County, Ore. – Deputies with the Josephine County Sheriff’s Department responded Wednesday morning to a report of a horse trapped in a swimming pool in the 10000 block of Lower River Road.

According to JSCO, multiple agencies coordinated to rescue the horse from the below-ground pool. A ramp was made with building material, but due to rain and slick conditions the horse was unable to climb out. The horse eventually collapsed.

Deputies said while the horse’s head was held up by rescue personnel, an Oregon Department of Transportation excavator arrived on scene. Tow straps were put under the horse and attached to the boom of the excavator. The horse was then successfully lifted out of the pool.

The horse was treated for minor injuries.

JSCO said Rural Metro Fire, Josephine County Search and Rescue, Grants Pass Fire Rescue, Josephine County Animal Control, and the Oregon Department of transportation all responded.
