I-5 stabbing victim identified

Gold Hill, Ore. – Oregon State Police have identified the man who was stabbed on Interstate 5 early Thursday morning.

Troopers were called to I-5 between Central Point and Gold Hill around 6:00 Thursday morning, for a man waving his arms on the side of the freeway. Police later found that man on Old Upton Road, suffering from injuries including a stab wound. Now they’re looking for the person or people who assaulted him.

“We believe there are at least one or two suspects involved or at least persons of interest that we want to talk to that were seen leaving the scene when we drove by,” OSP Sgt. Jeff Proulx says, “we have them on video camera so we’re trying to determine who they are at this point and then we’d like to talk to those guys.”

The victim, identified by OSP as 43-year-old Central Point resident Christopher Applegate, was taken to the hospital. Police don’t believe the public is in any danger.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call OSP dispatch at 541-664-4600.
