ISIS claims responsibility for Afghan hospital attack

Kabul, Afghanistan – Gunmen disguised as doctors killed at least 30 people and wounded more than 50 others in a hospital near the U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan’s capitol on Wednesday.

According to an NBC News report, the attack continued on for hours as the gunmen clashed with security forces, with some patients sheltering on window ledges and climbing out of the building.

Defense Ministry spokesperson Gen. Dawlat Waziri said 30 people were killed, including civilians, doctors and soldiers. He added the gunmen had been killed.

ISIS later claimed responsibility for the attacks in a tweet, but they offered no evidence to support the claim. ISIS has has claimed responsibility for past attacks that they had no involvement in.

A spokesperson for the Taliban said the militant group was not responsible for the attack.
