Josephine County public safety levy heads to voters

0428 Josephine County Sheriff's OfficeGrants Pass, Ore. – A tax measure to fund Josephine County law enforcement will officially appear on the November ballot.

The Josephine County Clerk’s Office said the signature verification process for initiative petition P-2016-01 has been completed. The required amount of signatures has been reached to place the measure on the 2016 General Election ballot.

The measure is intended to provide a four-year fund for deputies, prosecution, and jail beds.

As proposed, the 4 year levy would cost homeowners $1.42 for every $1,000 of assessed value– or just under $200 a year for a $200,000 house. They anticipate it will generate about $10 million a year for public safety.
