Klamath Falls man sentenced for racist crime

0520 Vangastel

Medford, Ore.- A Klamath Falls man who admitted to threatening his neighbors because of their Vietnamese heritage was sentenced Friday in Federal Court.

Jon Vangastel entered a guilty plea in May. Friday, a judge sentenced him to five years probation. Vangastel will not serve any time in jail.

Vangastel told the Department of Justice he entered his neighbor’s property without permission and blocked their gate so they couldn’t park their cars on their property. The family eventually began to fear for their safety and moved.
