Cave Junction, Ore. – A new historical marker is being installed in Cave Junction.
It will honor the 555th Parachute Infantry Battalion, an elite all-black paratrooper unit deployed to Oregon near the end of World War II.
The marker will be unveiled June 3 at the Siskiyou Smokejumper Base Museum.
Members of the unit jumped into fires caused by Japanese balloon bombs and destroyed any remaining explosives.
