$340,000 Granted To Josephine County Fairgrounds

They’re asking for help…

Hundreds of Josephine County residents who showed up to the commissioners meeting Wednesday night, all wanting the same thing,to save their fairgrounds.

“I feel better because there were a lot of rumors flying around.”

“It’s encouraging to see how supportive people are of the fairgrounds its ten times more then any weekly session

According to fair managers, over the last seven years the fairgrounds has lost 315-thousand dollars.

Without a loan or a grant– they say– it could shut down..

Something families say would not only mean then end to the fair but things like a spot for a red cross shelter, like the one used just last month after several wildfires.

“It would be devastating it would be like a knife to the heart of the community.”

Commissioners listened to commentand considered giving a grant, a loan or nothing…

“Ii think its looking like there going to be a good discussion and we will come up with one of those three points to have a consensus on.”

And the final decision from commissioners a $340,000 grant coming from the general fund.

Commissioner Heck says the $340,000 were in the general fund’s budget for 2013.

But because the county itself is strapped for money this is the only year they’ll be able to help out.

He says its now up to the people to further the future of the fairgrounds.
