4 year old dies in rafting accident near Prospect

JACKSON COUNTY, ORE. — A 4 year old boy, just days from turning 5 years old, died while on a rafting trip with his family Saturday.

A raft with 4 year oldBrayden Riley Biggs, along with 5 other people capsized in the Takelma Gorge near Proscpect. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says, “this stretch of the Rogue River is steep and rocky with swift rapids (class III and IV).”

Kayakers located Brayden, unresponsive, about 200 yards downstream from where the raft capsized. CPR was performed for over an hour.

The sheriff’s office says Brayden, along with all the members of his party were wearing personal flotation devices.

With no cell service for miles, a hiker heard calls for help and ran 2 and a half miles to get to his car and call 9-1-1.

A helicopter eventually located the rafters and were able to help navigate ground crews to the scene.

The Jackson County Medical Examiners Office responded to the scene. The exact cause of the childs death is not yet available.
