790 Fire community meeting

Prospect, ore.– Dozens of people who live near the 790 fire were at the Prospect Community Center Monday night to get a better idea of how the firefight is going.

The fire burning in the Sky-Lakes Wilderness has grown to 2,963 acres.

The U.S. Forest Service lead the meeting and answered questions.

They talked about how the fire is in the middle of the forest and said it’s difficult to get to.

They said a lot of the help is coming from the air;10 helicopters, four air tankers, and several other air resources are on stand by.

Along with 400 firefighters.

Residents said they just wanted to get an idea of what’s happening so close to their town.

“Forest service has really jumped on it. They brought a lot of people they’re hitting it hard. I know they’ve had some rough turns but we want to make sure that everybody in the community understands how hard they’re working and support them in the effort,” said Fred Wickman.

“I don’t like to see the forest burned up so i’d like to see them knock it down as quickly as they can,” said Guy Parker.

The American Red Cross was also there with information packets to teach people how to prepare in case of an emergency.

The U.S. Forest Service said the hot and dry conditions have also been a challenge and said they were working to try and get the fire lined Monday.

They also said the fire has cost 11.3 million dollars
