Accused Killer back in court

Grants Pass, Ore — Facing a multitude of charges the man accused of killing a Grants Pass couple in June makes another brief court appearance.

The entire process took less than four minutes, but today’s appearance by Brian Killian is the first in what attorneys say will be a long and drawn out legal process in the aggravated murders of Jerry and Joann Jackson.

Smiling in court accused murderer Brian Scott Killian seemed defiant as Josephine County chief deputy district attorney Lisa Turner the discussed county’s case against him.

Killian is accused of killing Jerry and Joann Jackson of Colonial Valley during a robbery last month.

Killian was arrested while allegedly driving the Jackson’s car.

“These types of cases take a long time, because of the magnitude of the evidence, the magnitude of the charges, the whole process,” said Turner.

Killian also faces charges from an earlier crime involving the use of a different vehicle.

“The defense is awaiting a voluminous amount of discovery from the state which this case is still there’s some investigation being done,” said Turner.

Killian’s defense attorneys waived their clients right to a speedy trial aiming to go to court outside of 60 days.

Turner says in a case like this, a speedy process isn’t likely either way.

“There’s probably going to be quite a few court dates after this court date,” said Turner.

Turner says Killian faces nearly 30 charges included aggravated animal abuse, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and assault in addition to the aggravated murder charges.

His next court date is set for August 10th.
