Afternoon Standoff Ends Peacefully

A standoff ended peacefully Wednesday afternoon after nearly three hours of negotiations.

Medford Police responded to a call of a suicidal male in the 1400 block of Coquette Street around 2:30 pm.

Police say that due to weapons in the home and the possibility that the man was armed, they called in the swat team.

Lt. Mike Budreau said “We tried announcements with the armored vehicle and we got no response from that. Ultimately we were able to break a window in the back and send in one of our robots. We sent in a robot and ultimately engaged him and we could see him in there. We saw he was alive and well.”

Officials say that although the man had not committed a crime, they must make sure he is ok.

Shortly after 5 pm the man was taken into protective custody and taken to an area hospital for medical evaluation.
