Ashland City Councilor pushes for tax exemption for vendors

Ashland, Ore. — One Ashland City Councilor is pushing for an exemption in the cities tax code.

Less than a month after the council voted to start requiring certain vendors at the Rogue Valley Grower’s Market to pay it’s food and beverage tax, Council Member Carol Voisin is proposing an exemption.

She says these small time business owners don’t spend enough time within the city.

Tuesday night was a first reading of the exemption. As it stands, market vendors who sell hot or prepared foods would be required to pay 5% of their profits to the city’s tax, starting this year.
