Ashland city officials warn of E. Coli in Ashland creek

Ashland, Ore. — Ashland city officials are warning people to stay out of Ashland creek

The city’s Parks and Recreation Department says the creek currently has a high level of E. Coli bacteria.

They say they strongly recommend that no one bathe, wade, or swim in the creek or the reservoir that are both located in Lithia park.

NBC5 medical specialist Doctor Robin Miller says the warning isn’t something people should take lightly, “E. Coli is a common bacteria in stool. And if you swallow the toxic kind it can give you diarrhea. Most people wont get sick at all but some can get extremely sick with diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, the whole nine yards.”

The Parks and Rec Department says it’s likely that Ashland creek and the reservoir will remain closed for the rest of the summer, or until the rainy season begins.
