Ashland Fire and Rescue investigating house fire

Ashland, Ore. –Ashland Fire and Rescue is still investigating the cause of a fire that damaged the inside of a home on Tuesday afternoon.

Division Chief Chris Chambers says firefighters responded to the home on Union Street just after noon. When they got there they found flames inside the house on the ground floor.

The woman living there said she tried to put them out but they were too big. She got out with minor smoke inhalation and firefighters say it could have been much worse.

The original call described fire downstairs in home.. and a person trapped upstairs… that didn’t turn out to be the case the resident of the upstairs portion of the house wasn’t home at the time of the fire, said Chambers.

Firefighters say one of the woman’s cats died in the fire. They also say the fire did not spread past the ground floor of the home.

The cause of the fire and assessment of damage done by the fire is still under investigation.
