Ashland man receives prestigious culinary arts award

Ashland, Ore. — An Ashland man was awarded one of the culinary arts most prestigious awards.The James Beard foundation award for reference and scholarship was given to Adam Danforth.Danforth moved to Ashland a year ago. He wrote two books about the art of butchering and won the award for his book titled:Butchering Poultry, Rabbit, Lamb, Goat, and Pork: the Comprehensive Photographic Guide to Humane Slaughtering and ButcheringI’m the only butcher, I think, who has ever won the James Beard award so that feels really great and Im really happy that they’re recognizing a book that not only focused on the fabrication of meat, but also on the actual honorable act of killing on the farm,” said Danforth.Danforth also won the International Association of Culinary Professionals award earlier this month.He says he is not sure what’s next for his career, but the award is a lifelong honor.
