Assault victim speaks out

Medford, Ore — An Ashland man will spend at least seven years in prison after pleading guilty to brutally attacking a woman in March, 2013.

It’s been a painful year and a half for Crystal Waldon and her family, but on Thursday Waldon watched as her attacker pleaded guilty.

“I’m not going to look back, I’m just going to move forward from this,” said Waldon.

A year and a half after she was brutally assaulted, Waldon is finding closure as her attacker pleaded guilty.

The original charges of first degree sexual abuse, rape and kidnapping dropped for two second degree assault charges.

Torres faces a minimum of 90 months in prison, which is enough for Waldon who says she’s satisfied with Thursday’s outcome.

“I’m glad it’s over, it’s been a long time coming, I’m glad justice is served,” said Waldon.

“It’s been a long process, he went through 3 different attorneys, now after a year and a half we finally do have some closure for the victim in this case, said Deputy District Attorney David Hoppe.

Waldon is a victim and a survivor who is willing to address the attack, not only in court but in public. She urges other women to do the same.

“I’m a survivor of a brutal brutal attack and women who are out there going through this, just get help, just get help, don’t go back,” said Waldon.

Waldon and the prosecutor did not want to go into the specific details of the attack.

Torres will be sentenced in November. He waived his right to a trial by jury.
